Subdomain Migration

  • Good Day Everyone,

    I have a question regarding themes and subdomains. I created a subdomain https://www.test.nesasales.com to create an updated website for https://www.nesasales.com. Instead of migrating everything over (which I have never done) to make the subdomain the live domain, can I just copy the new theme and setting over to the already live site and just make that theme active? Or do I have to go through the steps to move the subdomain over?

  • You can just copy the theme and uploaded files over – only if you haven’t had any changes to the content in the database (as a note, the vast majority of updates do, so it would be strange if yours didnt’).

    If you do need to copy across the database updates then yes, you will have to go through process of moving the site.

    Ditto what catacaustic says. Theme options and plugin settings are saved in the database. You’ll have to do a complete migration and URL change.
