• So I launched a new install of WP in a subdomain (openroad.slocyclist.com) yesterday, but I’ve decided I want to actually host it on a subdirectory (slocyclist.com/openroad). I found the tutorial on Codex, but it seemed to work after merely changing the URL in my Admin->Settings to the subdirectory instead. I didn’t modify any other files or add them to the subdirectory.

What am I missing here? Is this actually working? I feel like I need to delete the subdomain and then upload all the files to the subdirectory, but they’re both coming up it seems.

    Sorry, these are ill-defined questions. I just think I’m missing a step somewhere . . . .

It might actually work depending on your hosting provider’s server configuration. Many just map subdomains to subdirectories, so if your subdomain is sub.example.com, it’s actually example.com/sub with the subdomain mapped to it.

If that is the case with your hosting provider, and it sounds like it is, changing the WordPress and Site Addresses at Settings > General in your Dashboard is usually almost enough. Next, you should use a plugin like https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/velvet-blues-update-urls/ to change the URLs in your content.
