• I tried finding information elsewhere on this but no luck so far. I am mapping out a site that would have videos available for viewing or purchase on the front end or the client side of the site. )www.mysite.com)

I want to create a subdomain (studio.mysite.com) that registered users would have access to premium content and forums as well as upload their own videos to be available on the client side of the site (www.mysite.com).

In addition users on the client side would be able to have access accounts they could login to and view purchases or make comments on videos etc.

The closest I can think of to a similar site might be https://www.smartshoot.com and studio.smartshoot.com

Is this something that should be done with multisites or can I use a regular wordpress install and plugins such as BuddyPress to make this happen?

  • You could create a multisite with a subsite and then add customers user to that site on purchase. However, it might be easier to just use a single installation and one of the many membership plugins and then simple map the subdomain to the members only area.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll do some research on mapping to a subdomain. Would the databases be separate by just mapping to a subdomain? I could see it being useful to have the option to just categorize the users as opposed to having separate databases/completely different WordPress installs.

You can also use WP super Subdomains for subdomain https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-super-subdomains/
    Good day !
