Subfolder with long url

  • If that hosting actually is at GoDaddy, you likely already realize there is some kind of intermediary service handling DNS:
    https://www.whois.com/whois/silverpineslodge.com

    Have you considered saving ‘https://www.silverpineslodge.com’ in the settings for the site you have done and then moving your wp-config.php and /wp-content/ folder into “root”? That is what I think I would try after first making full backups of both sites and being certain I had phpMyAdmin access to both databases.

    I met with a tech-savvy guy, and here’s what we did. First, he saw that the guy hosting the account was actually pointing the DNS to the folder, silverpineslodge. The tech-savvy guy told me to have the hosting guy just repoint the DNS to the subfolder, /SPL. Then the tech-savvy guy told me to wait until after he’d done that, and then go in to the WordPress dashboard, to Settings, General, and change both the WordPress URL and Site URL from
    https://obviousmoosehosting.com/chrissinger/silverpineslodge/SPL/
    to just
    https://silverpineslodge.com, and voila! It worked! All I had to do was go back in and update some of the links that I had entered manually. Maybe 20 instances. No biggie. This was a huge relief!
    Hope this helps anyone else with a similar problem!

    I did not know precisely how to get there with all that other stuff going on, but yes, that is definitely where you wanted to go!
