Submenus not visible on “short” pages

The url of my site is:
If you select the menu Demo you will find out that menues more to the left is not fully visible if you select them, for example “Litteratur”. Submenus of that menu is fully visible if other pages are selected as current.

On this link you can see two images.
The first with the incomplete menu and the second when the page is longer and the whole menu is visible.

    overflow: visible;
}

Now it works fine with the menus.
But I do not understand why I have to write custom css to get it to work, this should work out of the box.
