Hello – I love the app so far. It’s super extensive and solving ALL my problems. Except for one…

I’ve yet to be able to upload a post (with an image attached) on my mobile device (Android, Galaxy S7 Active) whether I’m connected to WiFi or not – especially if not. BUT, my client has been able to upload from her mobile (iPhone) ONLY while connected to WiFi. The problem is, when I click submit, it seems like the server hangs up – if I wait long enough, I’ll even get a “Server Timeout” error. The plugin works as expected on desktop/laptop.

Unrelated, our WP install is currently setup on a Managed WordPress server from Google. We’re switching to WPEngine soon… I’m not sure if this is a server issue or a plugin issue since the issue itself is intermittent based on device/connection.

Have you experienced this before? And, do you have a sandbox version of the plugin (Free, not Pro) running somewhere that I can test on my phone to see if this issue is specific to my WP / plugin install?

    Thanks!
    Tyler

Hi, thanks for the feedback. I’ve not heard of anything like this before, but I do know that the plugin does not require wi-fi or even an internet connection to work. That is, post submission and image uploads happen directly between the form and the plugin, without anything making/requiring any outgoing HTTP request. You can verify this by setting up a local test environment like with _AMP or whatever and testing from there.

Also, I don’t have a sandbox version of the plugin, but I can tell you that many users upload posts with USP on all sorts of mobile devices, so most likely there is something specific to your setup that might be interfering with normal functionality.

    Thanks for your response, Jeff.

So, you’re saying the uploading of post/images has nothing to do with (or without) WiFi connection because there is no HTTP request to save the post? So, the server timing out is likely more about the server and less about the plugin?

The interesting thing is, I’m experiencing this issue on my Galaxy S7 Active (Android) whether I’m connected to the internet or mobile network and my client is only experiencing it on her Apple device while not connected to the internet…

If you don’t mind, I’d like to keep this ticket open as I migrate the WP install from Google Managed WordPress to WPEngine to see if there is something wonky going on with the server… If not, I think it might be an Android issue.

P.S. It would be awesome if you did have a sandbox version of the plugin. I think it’d help the community with a lot of their questions – not to mention your ability to reference it in responding to tickets.

I should clarify that the only HTTP connection that is required is between the form and the plugin script, such that no external/additional/outgoing HTTP connection is required. Which is to say that, if you can access the WP site in the browser, then that is all that is required for post submission to work. (sorry it was early yesterday when I responded initially).

What I would do is test on different setups, with different settings, in different browsers, devices, etc. It’s just a matter of troubleshooting to eliminate variables and isolate the cause. So for example, if you can test on Android and iPhone, with everything else being the same, and the issue only happens on Android, then that’s most likely at issue.

“..client is only experiencing it on her Apple device while not connected to the internet.”

As clarified above, the user must be able to access the site in order to submit a post. So unless the user is working from a local copy, not having internet access would prevent them from accessing the site, submitting a post, etc.

No prob keeping the post open, will keep an eye on it until the next plugin update before marking it as resolved. Please keep us in the loop with any discoveries. Thank you.

Gonna go ahead and mark this thread as “resolved” just to keep things organized. Feel free to post again if needed. Thank you.
