• I just got a WordPress blog on my site at https://www.psychicvonna.com/blog and I was told WordPress automatically submits my blog to 51 search engines routinely. Last night I did a manual feed to RSS and got my blog content in my RSS inbox this morning. There was nothing there before, which makes me wonder if there is something else I need to do in order for WordPress to submit my content to the search engines automatically? Thanks. Vanayssa

WordPress normally submits new posts to the pingomatic, which sends pings to several blog indexing systems, like Technorati and such. You can change this in the Options area somewhere.

But it doesn’t submit anything to “search engines” like Google and such. These normally find their content on their own, although in the case of Google you can use the Google Sitemaps plugin to send new content to Google on a regular basis.

None of this has anything to do with RSS, really. The RSS feed is always up-to-date, but how often your RSS reader looks at your feed is up to the reader.

If you let WP send pings to Ping-O-Matic (which it does by default) then it is extremely likely that search engines will find your site in time. The reason is that the pings alert sites like Technorati to check your RSS feed, and Google checks out links that are on Technorati. So in a circular way I think that pings and RSS *do* lead to search engine indexing.

If you DON’T want this, then turn off the pings as soon as you launch your site, and put a Robots.txt file (look up how on google).

Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it and understand better what is really happening now. Another thing I wondered about, I keep getting ads for antivert and other drugs etc posted as comments to my stories on my blog. Every day I have to go in and delete these silly things. Is there some setting I should have in place to avoid getting these ads in my comment spaces? Any help most gratefully received. Thanks again. Vanayssa

This is trackback spam; you need to grab the Bad Behavior and Spam Karma 2 plugins (links from Plugins, install them, and configure.

There is a plugin available which will automatically submit your blog posts to 160 search engines as you publish them. this plugin can be found at postgator.com https://www.postgator.com

You just forgot to tell it is not a free plugin, you have to pay for it!
