    I’m using WordPress 3.3.1, hosted by Yahoo small business. I installed the Subscribe2 plugin, and it seemed to be working fine. Then, it stopped working. The newer version is installed now, but that hasn’t seemed to fix it. My blog is https://terryodell.com/terrysplace

    I don’t know what other information you need to advise me of what/where/how to fix this.

    Thanks,
    Terry

  • @terry,

    First things to check:
    1/ In Subscribe2->Settings set the number of recipients per email to 1
    2/ Make sure the “Sender” selected uses an on-domain email account and that this email actually exists
    3/ Check with your hosting provider what restrictions or limitations they impose on outgoing emails, make sure your number of subscribers does not exceed these restrictions
    4/ Check with your hosting provider that your account is not flagged as sending too many emails, if it is ask them why and get them to remove the flag
    5/ Try deactivating other plugins and use a default theme to check for code conflicts

    OK — thanks, I think.

    1. Changed this, but am not clear on the meaning. If 20 people subscribe to my blog, they each get one email, right? The ‘1’ means that the same notification email is sent to all my subscribers, but only one recipient is listed in the email “to” field.

    2. Don’t really understand this one. Where do I check?

    3, 4. Will do, although 30 subscribers hardly seems extreme.

    5 Scares me to death; will ask my vacationing guru to deal with this when she returns.

    Also, when I open the setting page for Subscribe2, I get a red box with You must to create a WordPress page for this plugin to work correctly. inside it. Does this mean that since my blog is all posts, not pages, things don’t work.

    Thanks for your help. I was with Blogger for 6 years, and it’s tough learning these new “tricks” with WP

    Follow up — I have been on the phone with the Help Desk at my hosting provider (for a long time) and they can’t seem to see why it’s not working. My email is listed as [email address removed]m which should be correct. They say I’m not flagged and nowhere near my limit of emails.

    As I said, it used to work.

    @terry,

    1/ Subscribe2 is designed originally to send 1 email with all the recipients in a BCC header. Over time this has become more unpopular with hosting providers. Setting this option to one sends emails direct to each subscriber instead (only 1 copy).

    2/ First have a look in Subscribe2->Settings. See what sender you’ve picked. One will be your blog name, another will say Post Author and then it will list all admin users. Your best option is to use an admin user with an email address set in their profile that ends with the same domain as your blog.

    3/4/ It may not seem much but it could be enough to break your hosts rules.

    Finally, you do need to create a page and put the Subscribe2 token on that page otherwise new sign ups will not work.

    Thanks – I think I’ve done the first (and I’ve got Yahoo investigating it as well). I’m not sure what to do with a page, since this domain is a blog, and it’s all posts. Would creating a “subscribe to this blog” page that has nothing on it other than the Subscribe 2 token work? Right now, the plugin is on my sidebar.

    This seems so extra-technical, since it did work before.

    I’ll try. Sigh.

    After checking, I don’t understand why I need a “Page” on my blog. However, I’d be willing to create it but I don’t know how to put the token on the page itself. I’ve got similar functions on my website with newsletter and contact forms: see
    https://www.terryodell.com

    and I’m willing to create something similar for my blog, but it’s not clear enough to me how to put the “token” you’re talking about onto the body of the page.

    @terry,

    The token is explained in step 7 if the install instructions:

    7. Create a [WordPress Page](https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Pages) to display the subscription form. When creating the page, you may click the “S2” button on the QuickBar to automatically insert the subscribe2 token. Or, if you prefer, you may manually insert the subscribe2 shortcode or token: [subscribe2] or the HTML invisible <!--subscribe2--> ***Ensure the token is on a line by itself and that it has a blank line above and below.***
    This token will automatically be replaced by dynamic subscription information and will display all forms and messages as necessary.

    Thanks — I appreciate it. I speak English, not computer, and apparently what’s intuitive for others isn’t for me.

    Well, sad to report that after doing all of the above and uploading a new blog post this morning, I haven’t seen any notifications in either of the email accounts I used to subscribe. Sure wish I could pinpoint what was broken. Anyone heard about any issues using Yahoo as my host provider? I spent an hour on the phone with them yesterday, and they couldn’t find any reason why it shouldn’t be working.

    It took longer than expected, but I did hear from several subscribers that they did get the email. I never was able to subscribe myself, but it does seem to be working. Thanks for the help
