• Hi!

Okay, so I was pretty happy with how my widget turned out, but for some reason nothing happens when you enter your email address and hit the subscribe button… I have used this list and signup form with an embedded form as a text widget so I know it works, but somehow this plugin is not doing the trick. Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong?

Another issue I have is that the widget is showing up on all pages except the homepage (while all my other sidebar widgets are showing on all pages as it should be).

I hope you can help me out, thanks!

  • Hey Lara,

Thanks for posting! Right now I am able to see the “Sign up for updates” widget form at the top of the right sidebar on all pages of your site. Additionally, entering a test email address and hitting Subscribe does trigger an opt-in confirmation email sent out to that email address, so the form is communicating with MailChimp. However, there’s definitely a success/error message missing.

Could you tell me if the “Use Javascript Support?” option under “List Options” on the plugin settings page is checked or unchecked? With that info I’ll have a bit more insight and be able to do some more testing to try to pin-point what is going on to cause the response messages to not appear when the form is submitted.

Hi Kath, thanks for the quick response. For some reason the form is on all pages now (even though I did clear my cache). The option use JavaScript support is indeed checked; I had a feeling it could have something to do with that. Do I need to uncheck it and test it out?

    Thanks again!

    Hey Lara,

I’d definitely recommend testing out the form with the JavaScript option unchecked and seeing if that works better for you.

It’s a little odd that the form wasn’t on all of the pages, but that is most likely something to do with a lag in changes being saved on the web host/server cache side of things. I’m pretty sure that will be unrelated to the other issue we’re seeing. ??

Let me know once you’ve turned off the JavaScript and I’ll be happy to test things out with you!

Hello, I’m not exactly sure but I think I’m having a similar issue with the subscribe button in the header of this site?

This plug in and form was working for a period of time. Not exactly sure when that derailed.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Kath!

Unfortunately that did not do the trick :(. I have kept it unchecked so maybe you can test something?

    Thanks!

Hi! It’s still not showing anything after you’ve clicked the “subscribe” button. So although everything may work fine behind the scenes, I’d really love it to show some sort of confirmation after a subscriber clicks “subscribe”. Any thoughts on what it might be?

    Hey landpmarketing,

After doing some testing the form appears to be working just fine in the header of the site. Is there something specific which seems to be occurring?

    Hi Lara,

I’ve been looking into this a lot, as it’s definitely a bit odd that the response messages are not being displayed as expected in the widget form on your site.

In comparing the form on your site to one where the response messages are populating as expected, I notice that the wp-content/plugins/mailchimp/js/mailchimp.js?ver=1.4.2 isn’t linked in the source code on your site. This particular script file corresponds with Form submission functions for the MailChimp Widget and it basically is what tells the form to display response messages and where to do so. However, this may be due to JavaScript being turned off.

I’m having a bit of trouble pinpointing the exact issue at this point, because the way the response messages are handled in the coding of the plugin is a bit outside of my depth. What I would recommend would be to delete the plugin fully, and reinstall it… or to use the MailChimp embed signup form instead, which may be a more elegant option. The Slim embed form allows for a basic email-only field to be added, and it will have essentially the same double opt-in subscription process as the plugin, with perhaps a bit less coding and JavaScript to work with.
