Subscribe to Comments plugin: Major Privacy Issue?

    I use the Subscribe to Comments plugin and have for years:

    Today a commenter tells me that his/her email address is posted at the bottom of the comment form apparently public for all to see.
    I was unable to reproduce this. If the commenters email address was truly public, this represents a major privacy issue.
    I have disabled the plugin and set all posts’ comments off until I can resolve this.

    Has anybody run into this issue? I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit upset about this. I was going to comment at the plugin homepage, but it appears to be experiencing php errors.

    Noticed that when you went back the next day to leave another comment the fields were magically filled in with your name and email?

    Hmm… I wonder if this is what was happening?
    From the way I understood the complaint, the email address was being printed <i>under</i> the comment form, about where the Subscribe to Comments options are. I wish I had a screen shot….

    Yeah, the cookie thought went through my head as well. Perhaps I should run that by him/her and see if the email address was actually in the email address field of the form.

    Handy, you’re correct. The commenter emailed me back and stated that the email address was showing up in the form itself.
