Subscribe Widget Not Functioning Correctly

When a subscriber adds their email address and clicks the “submit” button in the sidebar widget, a confirmation email is not generated and/or sent to their address…therefore not allowing them to confirm and follow the blog. The check boxes under each post to follow blog or comments is working…only the sidebar widget is not. Any suggestions?
