The title of our latest post contained the trademark symbol (TM). When I received the new post email notification, the TM in the title showed as a large image and not text. It looked horrible. I believe this happened because the author of the post pasted the title into the field from Word or something.

I googled the problem and have determined that we could have added the TM superscript with HTML. I assume we would need to do that for other special symbols also.

Question: If we add HTML to the title of our posts, will Jetpack read the HTML as markup and display the text correctly, or will it read the HTML as text and show the code in the notification?

I don’t have a way to test this without sending an email to all of our subscribers.

Is there a way to test Jetpack email notifications before they are sent?

    Thanks for the information.

    Hi @delindaf

I tested this on a test site and if I used the HTML tag to wrap the “TM” it rendered in the emails as “TM” (but not superscript). This may be preferable to the error code, but it isn’t a perfect solution. If possible, I would recommend trying to exclude special symbols from your post title.

Regarding previewing email notifications, unfortunately, there isn’t a way to do that. There is an older feature request for this but there is no recent activity:

    Hi @lastsplash,

Thank you for performing that test. Can I ask you to perform another test? What if we used the HTML entity number: ™

Would Jetpack translate that as a trademark symbol?

    Thanks!

Sorry, I actually tested that as well and forgot to note it above. It doesn’t render properly in the email.
