I created a pop-up for a mailchimp signup, and it displays on my site after 5 seconds as planned. After a user enters a fresh email and clicks subscribe, the thank-you message appears. However, the user/email does not show up in my mailchimp account as a subscriber (i have the correct api key installed)

My OIM dashboard shows 3 subscribers/leads, but 0 contacts in mailchimp.

    Hello @bigbangtech ??

The most common reasons this might happen are:

    1. If you have double opt-in enabled on your Mailchimp integration (see https://optinmonster.com/docs/connect-optinmonster-mailchimp/#Enable_Single_Opt-in where this can be checked/adjusted). The submitted leads would be counted by OptinMonster as a conversion immediately when the campaign is submitted, but will not appear in Mailchimp until the lead confirms the subscription by selecting a link in an email that Mailchimp sends them.
    2. If you have extra fields added to your campaign that have not been correctly field mapped (see https://optinmonster.com/docs/connect-optinmonster-mailchimp/#Add_Extra_Fields), this can cause submissions to fail.

Will you check if double opt-in is enabled, or if you’re using extra fields that they are correctly mapped?

Let me know how that goes, thanks!

I checked my mailchimp audience settings, and DOUBLE OPT-IN is NOT checked. So, user should not be getting a OPT-IN confirmation email. However, after checking with a test address, the user is getting the OPT-IN confirmation email. Strange

    Hi @bigbangtech,

Great, thanks for the quick update!

Would you try submitting using a completely unique email, that you’ve never used for testing before?

Mailchimp will hold an email address in their double opt-in queue and require confirmation if it’s been submitted through a double opt-in form, even if you later resubmit it through a single opt-in form.

For that reason it’s best to use a completely unique email address for each individual test submission.

Let me know if that results in the lead being added directly to Mailchimp.

    Thanks!

I will try a fresh email address. Does this behavior happen with emails previously used with mail chimp regardless of where it was originally used? Like if it had double opted in at a competitors website/mailchimp, and now it’s “tainted” forever for double option checking no matter where it’s used?

    Hi @bigbangtech,

It’s specific to the Mailchimp account and Audience that the email is submitted to.

For example, if you submit [email protected] to be added to the Audience “Newsletter” in your Mailchimp account it would follow the opt-in rules of the first form it was submitted through. If that first form had double opt-in enabled the email MUST confirm by email before it’s added, even if you submit it again through a form that now has single opt-in enabled.

If you submit [email protected] through any other Mailchimp form (that is NOT your Audience “Newsletter”) it will not affect how the email is handled when you submit it to the Audience “Newsletter” later on.

    Does that help? ??

    Hi again!

Were you able to test with a fresh email address, and if so, was that address added to your newsletter as you’d expect?

I created a completely fresh [email protected] and hit subscribe on the pop-up. Again, received an email to this email address requesting subscription confirmation. I verified that the double optin option was unchecked and saved in the mailchimp audience setting beforehand. So I’ll just have to pick a different email marketer that doesn’t exhibit this behavior.

    Hi there,

Any email marketing provider would only trigger a double optin email even when its disabled, when the email address has been used in the past or they are not able to verify the authenticity.

Also, just to double check did you also disable this option in OptinMonster Integration: https://optinmonster.com/docs/connect-optinmonster-mailchimp/#Enable_Single_Opt-in as well?

i found the additional double optin option in the integration settings for mail chimp in the plugin settings. Now it’s single optin

I hope you have everything you need on this. Please feel free to let us know if there are any issues.
