When Yoast is activated, the users with subscriber role cannot upload media/avatar file, only Admin does. Media upload on user with Subscriber role works if Yoast is deactivated. Any idea why?

  • Hi @naphler,

We tried to reproduce this problem, but the default settings for WordPress doesn’t allow subscribers or other users to upload a profile image.

Are you using any user role plugins or user avatar plugins that add this feature? If so, can you let us know which one and what settings you’re using?

We are using “WP User Avatar” so that members with subscriber role can upload avatar image. It was working fine before but I’m not sure if this issue started after the WordPress update or with latest version of Yoast.
If I deactivate Yoast plugin, avatar/image upload works fine on Subscriber user.

It’s very odd as, by default, WordPress doesn’t allow anyone with the subscriber role to upload an avatar.

We understand you are using the 3rd party WP User Avatar plugin and when Yoast SEO is active, anyone with the subscribe role cannot upload the avatar anymore but if Yoast SEO is deactivated, it works.

Can you please confirm whether you see uploading the avatar option in the WP User Avatar plugin when Yoast SEO is disabled? Or you see an error during the avatar upload process when Yoast SEO is active?

Can you please share a screenshot of the relevant process so that we can take a look at it? How to include screenshots or videos?

Here’s a video showing the issue when Yoast is active and deactivated.

I tried to disabled all plugins and enable them one by one, avatar upload works fine when all plugins are activated except the Yoast.

It was working fine before, Subscriber can upload avatar while Yoast is activated. Probably because of recent update on WordPress or with Yoast that this issue happened.

Thanks for sharing the relevant information with us. We can understand the issue clearly.

We see the issue occurs recently for you but it was working fine before. In this case, can you please downgrade the Yoast SEO plugin to the prior version to see if that resolves the issue for you? You can find all the Yoast SEO plugin version here.

I use the version 14.8.1 and the subscriber avatar upload works fine again. Beyond that version it doesn’t work at all. Any idea why this issue happened? Is there an ongoing fix for this? I want to use the latest version but need to have this avatar/image upload working also.

Thank you for the time looking into this, I really appreciate it and hoping this will be fix in the next updates. ??

    Hi,

We are not able to reproduce the issue on v5.5.3 of WordPress, with Yoast SEO v15.2.1 with WP User Avatar v2.2.7.

We enabled the use of uploading avatars. See image: https://ibb.co/34gwpYp

We then uploaded an avatar. See image:https://ibb.co/SPDs6WY

And the right avatar appeared as expected. See image: https://ibb.co/m6ykTRq

If that is not working for you, we would like some more information.

    1. Can you confirm you are using WordPress 5.5.3? You can check by clicking on the W in the top left and selecting About. If you need to update, please check with your host provider.?Please know that if you are using an older version of WordPress Core you may experience unexpected behavior with Yoast.?This guide explains more:?https://yoast.com/why-we-dont-support-old-wordpress-versions/.

    2. We had another recent release. Can you confirm you are using the most recent Yoast SEO, v15.2.1? If you update, does the issue resolve?

    3. Are all your non-Yoast plugins and themes also updated?
