    Hi!

I’ve noticed now that when a customer who is subscribing to a newsletter with us places a new order, but doesn’t tick the box to subscribe to newsletter on the checkout page, the customer gets the status unsubscribed. I have also been running a few tests, and I can see that this is the behaviour of my MailPoet-list.

I’ve been trying to find solutions to this, but can’t find any.

I’ve spoken with a few of my customers about this, and they all say they wanted to stay subscribers to our newsletter. They just thought they didn’t have to tick the box once again.

    Do you have any solutions?

    Thank you for helping out!

    Hi there @blaudis,

    Thanks for reaching out!

What you are seeing is expected behavior for guests users: if the checkbox at Checkout is left unchecked, then subscribers will not be subscribed, and existing subscribers will be unsubscribed. However, if a user is logged-in and has previously subscribed, then that checkbox will be pre-checked when they get to Checkout, avoiding this issue of getting unsubscribed. They will be able to go through checkout without needing to manually check the box, since it will be pre-checked for them.

However, if they are checking out while not logged-in or as a guest, and using an email address that was previously subscribed, the Checkout page won’t know to pre-check that box. In that case, if they don’t manually check the checkbox, then that would result in them being unsubscribed.

I think the best options in this case would be to either re-word the label (e.g. “Check this if you want to receive or continue receiving our promo emails”) or else require clients to create a user account, and then make sure they log in before placing their order.

    I hope this helps!
