• Hi all,

I’m puzzled as to why my clients site “subscriber” level users can see sections in the Dashboard that should only be seen by the site Admin/Editors….see this screenshot…

It all seemed fine on my test server originally, then I moved it to the client server and noticed it happening.
I spoke to the Theme support and they seemed at a loss. I suspected a plugin so deactivated them all 1 by 1 and still no change. I did have a plugin called “Members” installed but it was happening before I installed it and now since deleted it cause that wasn’t working properly either (id added USER access to a Editor role but they couldn’t see it), so I’m left a bit puzzled at to what to try next?

    Appreciate any advice.

    Thanks

    Andy

  • The menu links you highlighted in your screenshot are not part of WordPress by default. Are they being added via a plugin or via the theme?

It’ll be the theme, but I swapped over to a default WP theme to test and they still show up.

Theme Devs had no clue as to what was going on as it wasn’t happening their end.

Which theme? And did you try turning off all plugins?

I disabled plugins 1 by 1, then swapped to Twenty Sixteen theme and logged in as a test user with Subscriber level…still showed those options.

Ill try again later tonight when noone is likely to be using the site and see if I can get screen shots.

You might need to reset the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin. Some especially “vampiric” plugins can still have effects even when they have apparently been deactivated, If possible, use the Phpmyadmin method. That seems to be the one that kills off even the most stubborn plugin.

ah, ok thanks. When I had the Members plugin installed I did see remnants of Table Press access in there and wondered why cause I deleted that ages ago.

I’ll try the Phpmyadmin method, so I just change that field to a:0:{} no need to change it back?
