The standard subscription form I’ve been using has been pinged as not being compliant with Section 508, which is required for any online resource created at my job. Is there a way to make this form 508 compliant? Is MailPoet aware of any 508 compliance issues with their sign-up form?

    Hi @sarahlhayes,

As I understand, Section 508 Compliance is shorthand for a law that requires federal government websites to be safe and accessible for people with disabilities. Is that correct?

We are aware that MailPoet is not very accessibility friendly, and we do have some issues with the forms, so I can’t guarantee we’re 508 compliant.

We do want to change this in the future, but given our current priorities, it won’t be in the very near future.

It is on our roadmap though, thanks for bringing it to our radar.

    Hello @bruberries,

Thank you for your prompt response. To be honest, it is disappointing that MailPoet did not consider accessibility a high priority from the start, or a high enough priority now to incorporate into its current development plans. Like you mentioned, Section 508 compliance is very important for government entities such as the one I work for (Department of Energy), and is required for our online resources, including our blogs.

I sincerely hope MailPoet reconsiders its priorities and moves accessibility up on its roadmap, for the sake of its disabled clients and clients beholden to Section 508. Otherwise, I will have to find another mailing client for our blog, and I’d honestly rather not do that, since MailPoet has been working so well for us until now.

    Hi there @sarahlhayes,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback! I will pass it to our product team.

You’re also welcome to add it as a suggestion here https://feedback.mailpoet.com

Our team will take it into account when discussing new features and improvements for the plugin.

Enjoy the rest of your day and stay safe!

    Hi there @sarahlhayes,

Our product team asked for more details on what exactly in MailPoet’s form is not meeting the Section 508 Compliance standards?

    Hello @treibalen!

I haven’t had a chance to run a full accessibility audit on our form, but I do know screen readers have an issue reading the form, especially if you choose the option to put any text inside the input boxes. It reads it in a way that makes it difficult for users to actually use the form for anything.
