    Hi there,

    I have a personal blog with Jetpack, and I have enabled the subscription form. I have WordPress configured in Spanish and everything seems to localize automatically – however the place holder for the subscription form from Jetpack still reads “type your email”.

    Is there a way to customize that text? Or to make it translate automatically like most strings already do?

    Hi there,

    Typically, Jetpack attempts to automatically translate its strings based on your site’s language settings. If the subscription form’s placeholder is not translating as expected, it could be due to a missing translation string or an issue with the localization files.

    To address this, you could try updating your language files via Dashboard > Updates in your WordPress admin area. This ensures you have the latest translations. If after updating, the issue still persists, you can report this localization problem so it can be investigated. Please report it by following this guide on how to translate Jetpack.

    If you need specific and immediate control over the placeholder text, you might consider using a plugin like Loco Translate. Loco Translate is a WordPress plugin that allows in-browser editing of PO files for localizing WordPress plugins and themes.

    They have a helpful beginner’s guide to the plugin as well, and please note that anything related to Loco Translate is beyond our scope of support.

    Thank you @erania-pinnera!

    I’m on a self install of www.ads-software.com – just updated the plugin, and I’m on WP 6.4.3 so everything is as up to date as it can be.

    Happy to report the localization issue the right way. Can you reshare the link to the instructions? It’s taking me to a 404 page, and the search option in Jetpack’s site didn’t get me anything helpful either.

    If the translation for the string is missing altogether, you should be able to find it there and suggest a correct one – then we can approve it.

    Found the right project for the plugin in spanish (https://translate.www.ads-software.com/projects/wp-plugins/jetpack/stable/es/default/)

    Found the string – https://translate.www.ads-software.com/projects/wp-plugins/jetpack/stable/es/default/?filters%5Bterm%5D=type+your+email&filters%5Bterm_scope%5D=scope_any&filters%5Bstatus%5D=current_or_waiting_or_fuzzy_or_untranslated&filters%5Buser_login%5D=&filter=Apply+Filters&sort%5Bby%5D=priority&sort%5Bhow%5D=desc. Added a comment categorized as “where does this string appear?” to validate it’s the right one.

    While doing this, I have found the hover text on the forms is also not translated – but I didn’t find the matching string (“Please fill out this field.”). It’s the same in the subscription plugin and in the search box (the WP default, not Jepack). Does that mean it’s managed in a different project?

    While doing this, I have found the hover text on the forms is also not translated – but I didn’t find the matching string (“Please fill out this field.”). It’s the same in the subscription plugin and in the search box (the WP default, not Jepack). Does that mean it’s managed in a different project?

    I suspect that if it’s a shared string with the WordPress Core, you might need to search within the Core translation repo to check whether the translation is missing or not.

    I’m not 100% sure about that, though, so I’d recommend checking it with the Spanish Polyglots members, who know that way better than me.
