• So I just changed the URL of my website (the primary site in the multisite installation) from 7thPage.com to Bookstacked.com. I followed this guide to perform the change: https://wpengine.com/support/how-to-change-a-multi-site-primary-domain/ It involved changing values in the database.

As far as I can tell, I followed the steps correctly. The primary site, bookstacked.com is working just fine. I’m not running into any problems there. All the pages, posts, and images load correctly.

My problem is with the sub-sites I have installed on the network. They’re being mapped with a plugin. Here are the subdomains and the domains:

    – divergent.bookstacked.com – factionhub.net
    – 5thwave.bookstacked.com – 5thwave.net
    – shadowhunters.bookstacked.com – shadowhuntershq.net
    – podcast.bookstacked.com – bookmarkedshow.com

If you go to the domains (on the right), you’ll find that it successfully redirects you to the sites. The pages and posts load correctly. However you’ll notice the broken images. From what I can tell, the images are trying to load from (example:) https://5thwave.bookstacked.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2015/06/The-5th-Wave-Book-Cover.jpg <– It SHOULD be doing that, right?

However, when I go to the URL, the image doesn’t load. I get this message from my browser: This webpage is not available ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED.

I’ve also noticed that I can’t log into the individual dashboards of the sub-sites. In the admin dashboard, if I select to go to a sub-site’s dashboard, I get the same error message. It’s trying to go to the URL, https://5thwave.bookstacked.com/wp-admin/

From what I understand, the domains/URLS are correct. They SHOULD be trying to reach 5thwave.bookstacked.com. But for whatever reason, when you go to those subdomains, they don’t come up.

I’ve been searching for an answer but am not seeing anyone else who has had this same issue. I’ll keep looking. But in the meantime, does anybody have any ideas as to why this might be happening? And how to fix it?

Ok, well I haven’t necessarily found a fix, but I found a way to at least access the dashboard and display the images.

In the sites’ settings, the URLs were *.bookstacked.com. I changed them to reflect the individual domains. So instead of 5thwave.bookstacked.com, the settings now list it as 5thwave.net. So now it’s no longer taking me to 5thwave.bookstacked.com/wp-admin, but 5thwave.net/wp-admin. And it works! I just had to reset the permalinks and all the pages and posts are coming up properly.

Some of the images are still messed up because they’re trying to load 5thwave.bookstacked.com/…, so I’ll just use a search and replace plugin to fix that.

With that said, the subdomains still aren’t loading properly. I have one sub-site that doesn’t use a domain name, but a subdomain, so I can’t use this trick to fix it. :/

Again, if anyone knows anything, help would be awesome! I’ll be contacting my host shortly to see if it’s something on their end…
