    Hello there,

I tried deleting the main taxonomy slug (in this case “typen”) with just putting a “/” in the “Custom Rewrite Title Form” field. Works perfectly for the taxonomy itself. Instead of domain.com/typen/cars/ it now shows domain.com/cars/.

Now I want to add a subcategory called “audi”. The URL domain.com/cars/audi/ is giving back a 404 error.

Can’t get my head around what the problem is. Hope you can help here!

    Cheers!

The long and the short of it is that WordPress doesn’t know what it should be querying for, or it’s interpreting that it should be querying for something else that you’re not intending, and not finding anything.

That taxonomy slug in the permalink is actually pretty important for finding the right information.

That said, we recommend https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/permalink-manager/ for permalink customization, and I believe it’ll work with your intended structure.

Thanks! Will have a look at it – seems like it really solves my problem.
