Subtitles does'nt work with Allegro theme

If the plugin doesn’t work with a theme then it’s likely due to one of these two theme bugs. You can use the built-in template tags for more fine-grained control over your site.

I tried inserting the code in the loop:

if ( function_exists( 'the_subtitle' ) ) { the_subtitle( '<p class="entry-subtitle">', '</p>' ); }

However, my posts still without subtitle. ?? Must I insert the code in another place?

I tested it too, and doesn’t work. My theme simply ignores the subtitle.

Hm. In that case, you may need to do something like global $post; before calling the function because it seems like whatever is happening inside of your theme isn’t picking up the actual post that you’re on. If you show me the file (the full file) that you’re trying to edit then I may have a better idea about what’s happening.

Another way of doing this is to do a var_dump( $post ) and see what comes up. If an ID shows up then the function should work. If NULL or 0 comes up then you may need to do global $post; then var_dump( $post ); to see the the ID is showing up.

I’m not a code expert and this explanation goes away from my expertise. How could I send you the file?

Just I found an unexpected problem in the category indexes: the subtitle appears correctly under the title, but it repeats under the author name. You can look this image: https://i.imgur.com/l8X8Uvy.jpg.

A few days ago I ask for help to the theme creator. Possibly he added the subtitle to the indexes and that causes this error. But I can’t figure where are that changes. ??

If that sort of works, then your final code will look something like this:

if ( function_exists( 'the_subtitle' ) ) {
                              echo get_the_subtitle( $post->ID );
                        }

With the first code, now the index shows the complete post:

With the second code, the index shows the subtitle twice:

The first code was to just diagnose the problem.

In short, echo get_the_subtitle( $post->ID ); is the solution.

You may also want to add this into your theme’s functions file to turn off automatic subtitle handling, since your theme doesn’t play well with it:

function subtitles_mod_supported_views() {
    return false;
}
add_filter( 'subtitle_view_supported', 'subtitles_mod_supported_views' );

Finally, ask your theme author to fix their issues. They are using the_title incorrectly.

OK, I pasted this code and after some adjustments I see subtitles in the category index, but not in the post.

I’ll follow your recomendation and I’ll write again to the theme author.
