When attempting to uncheck boxes for email alerts for successful/failed logins (Settings -> Alerts -> Alert Events), I click “Save”, but the settings are not saved. It reloads the Alerts page and the boxes are still checked.

We also can’t change or add an email address for the alerts, no matter what account we are using (both admins).

We are running the latest version of Sucuri (1.8.3) and WordPress (4.7.2).

    Any ideas?

  • Hi chrislyles,

Please check the permissions for the /wp-content/uploads/sucuri and the settings.php file in that directory. Are they writable? The settings.php file is where that info is stored.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the folder as well as the settings file are writable at 755. Sucuri also confirms they are writable in Settings -> General -> Data Storage Path. Still no luck.

    Anyone?

    Hey,

It sounds like there’s definitely an issue with permissions here. Does the absolute path for the data storage in the settings match what you expect and are checking? Can you save other plugin changes? Do you see the dates/times changing for sucuri-lastlogins.php?

    Any errors in the logs?

    Eve

Thanks for the response. I agree it sounds like permission issues, but I’ve checked the data storage path (which is correct and writeable) and all the subfolders therein, and they are all writeable at 755.

The only changes not saving are the alerts.

Dates and times do change and are updated regularly for last logins.

Not seeing any errors in the root log file regarding Sucuri; just an illegal string offset (height and width) in the theme we are using.

    Hi there,

The alert settings get saved in the sucuri-settings.php. You might try moving that file to a different directory and deleting the ‘live’ one. The file should get recreated by the plugin. Your alert settings won’t be saved, but they can be copied back and it could shed some light on what’s happening.

    I hope that helps!

Ok. I moved the settings file, and when I logged back into WordPress, it had me generate a new API key for the plugin. After activating Sucuri this way, I saw that the settings file had been recreated, but the permissions were 644. I changed them to 755, but unfortunately the problem is still there. I can’t seem to get it to save my alerts preferences. Should I simply delete the plug-in and reinstall?

The API key gets saved in the same sucuri-setting.php file along with the alert settings. That’s why you had to re-add the key. Can you log out/back in and see the API key is still active? It’s odd that the API key can be saved yet the alert settings can’t.

Sorry, I’ve tried various things to reproduce what’s happening here with no luck. I’m missing some clue. This is a Linux server? What version of PHP?

It can’t hurt to try deleting and reinstalling.

Thanks for your help! I find this odd as well. I did log out and back in, and the API is still active.

Yes, it’s a Linus server running LiteSpeed, php v5.6.20.

I will wait to reinstall until I hear from you; I’m betting there’s something weird with our server ?? Thanks again for your help!

You’re very welcome! I really hope we can figure this out. Do you see any message at the top of the screen when you try to save alert settings? For example, I changed 2 settings and see:

Sucuri: A total of 2 alert events were changed

    (@chrislyles)

No, we don’t have any message at all. It’s like it just reloads the page.

@chrislyles — I will mark this as resolved as we have applied many significant changes to the code since version 1.8.3; feel free to re-open this ticket if you are still experiencing this issue and include additional information about your environment so I can reproduce it and investigate it. Otherwise, we can leave this as resolved.
