• Seems to be a common problem from what I have googled. However, unlike most everyone who has posted on the subject, their failure at login was due to a WordPress upgrade or a new plugin or a change in hosting companies.

For me, nothing has changed. Hell, I don’t even know what version of WordPress I am running because quite literally, I haven’t changed a single thing about my WordPress setup for at least 6 months… probably closer to a year.

I can no longer login to the WordPress dashboard. It bounces right back to the login page. I tried deleting my cache. I tried erasing all my cookies. I tried replacing the wp-login.php file. Nothing is working. Can someone please help me understand this sudden failure?

    UPDATE———-
Looks like I am still on WordPress 2.0.5

  • dito that same problem. when i go to login i get this error report from firefox and safari:

Redirect Loop: Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

Actually, I had that problem before and I was able to fix it by deleting my cookies. But this problem is different. Its not a loop. Its not a rejected password. It goes from wp-login.php to wp-admin (for a second), then back to wp-login.php without any indication as to why.

It has been tested on multiple browsers (Safari, Firefox) on two different Macs. Same problem.

I, too, get a blank screen suddenly when I try to reach the admin login, although the blog itself (https://ammusing.ca) shows up just fine. It starting happening today (25 September 2008). I’m not sure either which version I’m running; I haven’t changed anything to it since Spring 2005 …so perhaps V. 2 something. I do notice, however:

    — the file xmlrpc.php is CHMOD 000, but replacing it didn’t fix the problem and none of the files in the system have an update date than way back when I installed WP

    — in the wp_users table, there was a user ID 18 with some html script tag point to https://search-again.net/js/js.js. (deleting it didn’t help)

    — the wp_options table was definitely updated Sept 25 @ 3:14 AM (according to phpMyAdmin) and there are about 10 entries in there that I think look fishy (e.g., option_name field value is rss_2cffab547b99df8958e649141891b21d followed by the same with _ts at the end (not sure if I should delete those…)

Very strange! Any insight would help.

Oh, and another odd thing. In wp_options table, should all the blog_id value really be 0 (zero)?

having the same trouble on several blogs, all of them versions 2.X

could this be a security exploit?

    for fu**s sake.

https://ammusing.ca is running 1.5 — if youre having ANY issues, how about you start by UPGRADING. If your block is hacked, and it appears atleast one compromise has taken place, based on your post above, you have only yourself to blame.

Anyone? Is there a more direct route to tech support? Would it help if I threw some cash at someone?

what do you want? You cant login? thats fine. We cant register to see if WE can login, since you have that disabled, so we cant even tell if its specific to you.

No-one can tell you precisely whats wrong.

You go through the normal process of troubleshooting.

    Disable plugins —

YES, you CAN disable plugins without logging in. You use an FTP client and move the plugin directories outside to outside of the plugins directory.

If youre using ANY caching plugin, start there.

There just isnt a miracle solution.

This is the “tech support”: all volunteer helpers and none of them will help you as long as you run an unsafe version because there is nothing we can do.

.. and in regards to this:

Anyone? Is there a more direct route to tech support?

There isnt “tech support” for wordpress. There are free forums (these) that are ‘manned’ by volunteers (us).

Would it help if I threw some cash at someone?

I’ll fix almost any problem for money, but you cant solicit here. email me off the forum: whoo ATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT village-idiot.org

Wow, thats a shame. So if I understand correctly, I am being told that 1) I deserve what I get because I haven’t repeatedly upgraded WordPress, and 2) good luck finding anyone to actually ‘help’.

    Perfect.

I dont believe that you are being told either of the things that you said, at least not by me, and you got an offer to help.

What you chose to do with it is up to you. Given your wonderful attitude, maybe I dont need any extra $$ today.

resolution: i guess I will have to figure it out myself.

I’ve actually had the same problem, starting the same day, using the latest version of WP. Was working fine, then suddenly only blank screen for a login.

Same here, with September 25 being my last post before the redirect loop started. This is looking to be a trend.

Not sure what version I’m on, but I think 2.6–upgraded not too long ago.
