• Seems to be a common problem from what I have googled. However, unlike most everyone who has posted on the subject, their failure at login was due to a WordPress upgrade or a new plugin or a change in hosting companies.

For me, nothing has changed. Hell, I don’t even know what version of WordPress I am running because quite literally, I haven’t changed a single thing about my WordPress setup for at least 6 months… probably closer to a year.

I can no longer login to the WordPress dashboard. It bounces right back to the login page. I tried deleting my cache. I tried erasing all my cookies. I tried replacing the wp-login.php file. Nothing is working. Can someone please help me understand this sudden failure?

    UPDATE———-
Looks like I am still on WordPress 2.0.5

  • i actually fixed the bug on my blog. looks like it was just some plugin going nuts. don’t know which one yet, but i’ve disabled them all via FTP and the logged in just fine. I tried to reactivate some of them – a few gave me error messages i’m still trying to figure out, others got back to work as normal.

flight404 – i see why you’re bummed, but keep this in mind: nobody’s working for you here.

My problem is apparently like a stiff neck. It just went away on its own after a few days. I didn’t change anything. Very strange as it was happening from any computer I tried to log on with, so not a cookie or cache issue.

I wish I could say the same. No change, and no ‘support’.

No need to be rude, whooami. Simply pointing out that my installation is too old to be salvaged would have been sufficient. I stated upfront that I hadn’t changed anything in my WP setup in a very long time, as I’m among those who believe that if it’s not broken, don’t fix it — and it hasn’t been broken until now. Upgrading was on my list of options all along, but I thought I’d ask here first in case that could be avoided with an easy fix. I’m not that invested in blogging, let alone WP.

Back to the drawing board for me …and thanks for nothin’!

Interesting. I have the same problem except I upgraded from 2.6.5 to 2.7

Is it a permissions issue maybe? No message or error. It just stays on the wp-login page.

I have clean the cache on my browser. How would you clean the cache for the actual blog?

    Thanks

How can one log into their blog and retake control on an issue like this? As far as I know I may never see the control panel of my wordpress blog again. I think this is a serious issue, and one that should be addressed. If it is already being addressed in another more recent thread I have not found it in the search.

    Thanks

I have had many people from several computers try logging in to the wp-admin area. Of course it gets redirected to wp-login. After entering in the information nothing happens. You remain on the page with the info logged in. It’s not catching or something. There are no errors…

We have all tried different browsers, cleaning cache, etc.

Looks like I have upgraded to 2.7 from the looks of the login page. I have tried re-uploading 2.7 files. I have updated the config file with the sample=config info with the proper database info. I have even optimized my tables… just to try anything…

    All this with no success.

Anybody else with some advice? I have been unable to get in now for 3 days. Thanks

    Ah ha

    My answer is here:

Make sure to change the password in your DB, update your config.php with the changes.

Also rename your plugins folder temporarily to plugins.bak or something…
