Sudden Invalid User & User/email combo

    Hello. I read all posts related to this.

    This morning I changed my password in the login screen lost password. I got the email and then successfully logged in and changed the password.

    Now, I get an invalid username at login. So I figured I screwed up the password. I hit lost password to have it send me another one. I get invalid username/email combo.

    OK, maybe the username got screwed up (dont know how, I cant change that w/o going into db and didnt) so I go to phpmyadmin and double check. There is a single user, the same username & email address (password is encrypted).

    I triple check the username and email, and cut and paste them directly into the lost password form. I get invalid username/password combo.

    I clear cache and cookies and try again. same. I switch to ie instead of firefox. same.

    The username and email are clearly right there in the db. The db is connected for the blog works fine.

    any ideas here?

    hmm, is admin one of your logins. I get admin is a bad username.

    what is a valid username, if not admin?

    OK big update here. This has me so stumped now I am clueless. whooami – no, the admin name isnt admin, but it is a valid username in the db.

    OK. So I run home (from my office were I was having the above issue). At home I am able to log in using the same username and passwrod. No problems. ie and firefox. I log out and head back to the office.

    I am on a sprint broadband card, as I was when the problem occurred, and I get the same error. username invalid.

    I switch off the sprint broadband and connect via the office network. restart the browser and log in, same username and pass, no problem.

    I confirm there is no login name problem in either browser, ie or firefox, while connected via corp. network.

    I then stay connected and in the wp dashboard on the corp network. I disable the network conncetion, enable and connct via sprint broadband, click a link on the dashboard and it says re-login, session expired. no problem. using the same username and pass, I get “username invalid”

    Why would the username field get screwed up depending on the type of network connection? (no firewall being used).

    So it works on a comcast cable conncetion (via wirelss router). It works on a corp. network (with all kinds of filters and such). But when I connect via a wireless broadband card – my own personal that works great for everything for a year now – it doesnt work.

    I dont know. I can tell you that over the weekend I was logged in at home.. went to work, needed to copy and paste some password related stuff out of my database into another site, so I went into mysql and, in the process, changed my password.

    I forgot to change it back.

    When I got home, I was rudely told that my session had expired once I clicked anything.

    I left that screen, opened another tab, went into phpmyadmin, changed my password back.

    Went back to other screen and WP never said a peep, never prompted me to login, out, nothing.. it behaved like nothing had happened.

    And all that was changed was the password.

    Does that help you? no. I suspect though, that it is a cookie thing.
