Suddenly 404 page on Posts _ Help

  • Hello…
    Out of the blue I am getting 404 errors on all of my posts and pages when I attempt to view them individually.
    The permalink structure I have had all along with no trouble =
    “custom /%postname%/”
    This now seems not to work…However, using the default permalink settings works…. I would glady use the defalt unfortunately I have alot of links pointing back to these custom URLs

    What I have tried to remedy:
    reset permalinks
    replace and update .htaccess
    update all files
    hosting company says everything is set up right on the backend

    I did install of a second version of WP in a directory and pointed another URL to that folder. Since then I have not been able to make changes to this second blog through the UI — Only via FTP.
    When I attempt to make changes through the UI I am prompted for my FTP credentials but putting them in results in nothing.

    Anyone help?
