• Just today I have found out from people trying to create a new account on my website that they are getting the following error message when they try: “Error: Couldn’t register you… please contact the webmaster!”

I have replicated this issue on the website. Furthermore, I cannot login as an admin, or use any of the other test accounts to log in.

This could be an issue due to the updates of the plug-ins, or WordPress, or the server – I am trying to get as much info as I can from all avenues. But since I can’t log in as an admin, I cannot potentially disable some plug-ins. Is there a workaround to this?

Additionally, is anyone facing this issue? Has anyone been able to resolve?

I don’t remember all of the plugins that I have, but I have S2member, a Forum plugin, etc.

  • Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
