Suffusion – Creating Page Without a Comments Section

Hello, to remove easily comments from posts, go to main menu: “all posts” and “quick edit” of each post; uncheck “allow comments” and if un wanted too, “pingback”. Work the same for “pages”.

Since a number of my sites are made for others, I don’t like adding yet another thing for them to remember to do when they make a post.

For a site where comments are not wanted, it’s not enough to change the settings in the Discussion menu. That gives you just the ugly “Comments are close” message under every post. I find I need to create a child theme in which the PHP code for commenting is edited out of index.php, single.php, and page.php.

I confess I sometimes have to do a bit of experimenting to get it just right. ??

To remove the comments are closed message simply go to Suffusion options———then select backend——– then scroll down to ‘ Hide “Comment form closed” Message on Posts ‘——tick the hide the message box———–save,——— and you are done.

Keep in mind that comments are content and indexable by the search engines so can be useful to have.

They can however be unsightly on sites like my woodblock print site.

Rather than turn them off I’m thinking of creating a child page and having comments there and link to it from the parent/gallery page. That way I keep the content but it doesn’t clutter up the appearence of my gallery pages.

Thanks for your comment. You are quite right, comments are indexable by search engines and are therefore very useful but are, for some people, unnecessary and, as you say, unsightly.
I don’t know about creating a child page, perhaps you might think about adding a forum with a direct link from your gallery; after all there are many old Japanophiles like myself who would enjoy the the ‘banter’ between former residents of Tokyo.
By the way I love your site, might I ask if your gallery is a simple plugin or is it bespoke? If the former I would greatly appreciate a link.

I use the NextGEN plugin for the gallery and Suffusion theme (using Minima skin) with a little bit of CSS to tailor the NextGEN grid view appearence.
