One of the key components of the WordPress community is to make things accessible.

For some of us, it can be very difficult to focus or completely watch and listen to videos, for others it may be difficult to listen to the video or even follow along with the captions. Transcripts provided by YouTube are often difficult to read because timestamps don’t always line up with sentences or sections and it’s very broken up.

There are many ways that those with access to the original audio files could generate a human-readable transcript with a few clicks of a button. Descript is one example of a software that does this, and I am sure there are countless others I am not even aware of (maybe even a few that are open source?)

The 2023 State of the Word Address is a prime example of where it would be most beneficial to have human readable transcripts. My Regex skills are not good enough to strip out all the time stamps quickly, and so I had to manually edit the transcription text from YouTube just to be able to know and understand what Matt said.

I released that text here as a Gist in markdown:

After I had finished reading it, I was also kind of curious to see what the new block forum editor looks like and try it out, so thought I’d try it out and make this post. ??
