    Hi Ashley,

We’re happily using Delightful Downloads on all of our University’s web sites and it is working perfectly — very robust and usable.

Since we often mail direct links to users, we would like to be able to customize the URL so it does not have …/delightful-downloads/… as part of the path.

Is there a way to globally set this part of the URL to something like ‘dd’ or ‘ddownloads’?

If not, is this a feature that you’d consider putting into a future release? or maybe as a paid upgrade?

(As well as stodgy universities, this would also be helpful to divorce lawyers, funeral homes, and the like, where ‘delightful’ might not set the right tone…) ??

    Thanks! Dan

    Hi Dan,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Thank you for the suggestion, that isn’t something I had initially planned but you raise a very good point, so I’ll add it to the to-do list. In the meantime, can you not share the actual download link https://domain.com/?ddownload=123

    Thanks,

    Ashley

Thanks Ashley — I appreciate you adding the suggestion to the list.

I’ll make sure I use the download link whenever I originate the email. Often, our users just copy the link as rendered in their browser, which is how the much longer links can end up in emails and other documents.

    Cheers, Dan

    Hi,

I also have a need for a directory name change for one of my clients for similar reasons. While I can change the ddownloads to files in the shortened URL for sharing, the problem is that I still see /wp-content/uploads/delightful-downloads/… when I open a PDF in the browser window. I’d like to change the “/delightful-downloads/” part to “files”.

I was wondering if there had been any progress on this since the last post 5 months ago.

    Thanks.

Hi Ashley — Would you be interested in adding this custom URL feature if some funding was made available for you to do it? It would be very handy for a project we have currently underway. If you are interested, please contact me at dan.bashaw[at]pathwisesolutions.com and let me know how much it would cost.

    Cheers, Dan

I’m a little worried that Ashley hasn’t responded to my post from 3 months ago about this same issue posted 9 months ago. Does this mean that the plugin is abandoned?

I hope not, since it is a great modern plugin and Ashley is an excellent developer. The last update was mid-July, so I think it is still an active project.

I notice that Ashley is working at a new position, and since free plugins are a sideline for developers, they sometimes have to be set aside when other demands are high. (That’s why I encourage developers to commercialize their plugins, since even a few hundred dollars a year in income can help to keep a plugin active and under development. That’s a lot harder for a developer to do if the plugin is a completely volunteer effort.)

I’ll see if Ashley responds to my “Will-Pay-For-Features” pitch!

@rcwatson, I notice now that Ashley has posted a notice that he is no longer monitoring the support forum or offering direct support, so I have posted the request on Github. (See: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/support-108?replies=1) I’ll let you know what comes of the request.

    Delightful Downloads certainly isn’t abandoned.

Adding new features and providing continued support takes a considerable amount of time, hence the reason updates don’t occur as often as I would like. It’s also the reason I have decided to no longer provide direct support, so that I can concentrate on further development. I will however still monitor these forums for bug reports.

As Dan mentioned above Delightful Downloads is a side project of mine, however it isn’t sustainable while the plugin remains completely free. Although the core functionality of Delightful Downloads will remain free I have started developing a ‘Pro’ version which will contain more ‘focused’ features and hopefully fund future development.

In the meantime, I have quite a few enhancements to add to the free version over the coming months. The first of which will be available in a couple of weeks and I’ve assigned this issue to the release.

Dan, I appreciate the offer, however I would prefer not to take direct payment for adding features to Delightful Downloads, but please feel free to make donation once it’s been implemented.

    Cheers,

    Ashley

Thanks Ashley – I’ll watch for the update, and will tip on arrival! ?? I’ll also be first in line for the Pro version when it becomes available. Cheers, Dan

Second in line for pro version Ashley!!

I have just registered my interest. Would be lovely to be able to add as a widget as well

    Take care
