Thanx a lot for a great plugin. I find it really useful, but the social meta “Select og:image source” is giving me some problem. The only setting i can use at the moment is “Default image”. Any other choice gives random and unreliable results. Since i am running a blog with embedded videos, I was hoping you could add a “From embedded video” option so i can be sure that the image sent to social networks is grabbed from the video still image and nothing else.

    Best Regards

    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,

This is a feature we are working on right now and will have released very soon.

I’m concerned that you are getting random results with the other settings. Can you provide some examples and we can take a look.

That is nice to hear. I started out trying different settings, but got very weird results. I tried “First image in content”, “First attached image” and “First available image” but none of them was reliable. Sometimes they show the header image of the site, other times the Google+ logo in the social links part of the site, Sometimes the default image, sometimes the sites logotype, and sometimes the YouTube video still image. On Tumbler the posts sometimes show up as text and a small image of the video, and sometimes as a title, no text and a big video image…doesn’t seem to follow any pattern. It was all over the place.

I also use a plugin called “Facebook Button” by BestWebSoft which uses the og:image set by your plugin, and it also shows this irradic behavior, and whats worse, it still is unreliable even though i have set the “Select OG:Image Source” to “Default image” a long time ago now. Just the other day, i “liked” the “About us” page at craftersu.com and it ended up having the Google+ logo as the og:image. You can see this if you go to https://www.facebook.com/daniel.magnusson.520 and scroll down a bit…

    Hi Daniel,

I’m sorry you’re having this issue. We’ve never seen this behavior with our Social Meta module before. We have seen it with other plugins but not with ours.

Would you mind doing some testing for us? If you don’t mind, can you set the OG:Image back to one of the other selections you were having issues with and then check the source code of the pages/posts you were having issues with and see what All in One SEO Pack outputs as the og:image. If it doesn’t match what you expect then let me know and provide me with the URL and we can take a look.

I have both a blog post and a page that causes problems, and that just the ones i know of right now, there could be many more. The Blog post is at https://craftersu.com/video/cooking/main-ingredient/meat/sausages/how-to-make-your-own-sausages/ and the page at https://craftersu.com/about/

I changed the “Select OG:Image Source” to “First image in content” then “First attached image” and then “First available image”, deleting browser cache in between each setting change, but the problem still remains. When i click on the Facebook like button on the page or post, the og:image shown is the Google+ icon. I didn’t try “Featured image” or “Image from custom field” since i use neither on my site.

The Google+ icon image shown has the following url:
    https://fbexternal-a.akamaihd.net/safe_image.php?d=AQDDF6bH7vhKilnN&w=154&h=154&url=http%3A%2F%2Fcraftersu.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2014%2F02%2Fg%2B32.png&cfs=1&upscale

One other weird thing, when i first installed this Facebook button plugin, i remember that “all in one SEO pack” was mention in the link for this image, but now it isn’t there anymore. Any idea why?

I found an old forum thread with this link in it, this is how it used to look (notice the “all-in-one-seo-pack” part):

    Hi Daniel,

That Facebook Like button is behaving badly. It doesn’t obey any of the OG meta provided. I’d recommend not using that Like button, we recommend JetPack for sharing. It looks like you are already using JetPack for sharing on posts, I see it here – https://craftersu.com/video/cooking/main-ingredient/meat/sausages/how-to-make-your-own-sausages/ and its working correctly.

Thanx for the heads up, i will try a different plugin then.
