Suggestion: Keep basic stats “for ever”

If we decide to keep the XX last days stats, all data before the XX days is lost. That would be great to be able to keep at least some basic data “for ever” (number of pages, number of unique visitors, by day).
I know that there are plugins for this, but that should be probably better inside the stats plugin ??
