I’m very happy with SimpleTOC … here’s a suggestion for next time you’re looking at the code.

My main wish is for configuration / saving of the default settings. Each time I insert a SimpleTOC block I have to change these things:

    Remove Title ON
Limit displayed headings to Min: H2 to Max H3 only
    Use Absolute URL’s

Being a lazy person, I’d prefer to have this done automatically <g>.

I expect other users would have their preferred defaults.

NOT a complaint … Thanks Mark,

    Peter Deegan

I understand that completely. You can convert your configured SimpleTOC block in a “reusable block”. It will keep it setting. This way, you can use your settings for every new post by adding the reusable block.

    Marc,

Thanks for that VERY fast reply … 21 minutes! Fantastic!

A reusable block had not occurred to me … works well.

What if POST A has 1 H2 and lots of H3 then Post B has H2s only… How will “reusable block” save for POST A work on POST B?

Reusable blocks save the settings. Not the content. In the end they are way more flexible than global settings.

Further to Marc’s suggestion of Reusable Blocks — which works like a charm.

I suggest using Lock Reusable Blocks https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/lock-reusable-blocks/ which prevents accidentally changing a reusable block when it’s in a post.

That ensures the block settings aren’t altered unless you really mean it!

Personally, i would keep it simple. =) Less (plugin) is more.

I totally agree — but Lock Reusable Blocks is very useful, especially in multi-author environments where it’s way too easy for a less-savvy author to mess up a RU block.

Frankly, I was surprised locking isn’t in the WordPress core code — but then I expect the developers have many other things on their To Do list <g>.

    Okay, I understand that
