I’ve tried several searches (some more than once) and only once had suggestions come up and it took about a minute for the suggestions to display. Every other time, a black loading wheel appears in the search box and eventually goes away without making suggestions.

With the plugin active, the following comes up in the console:

Synchronous XMLHttpRequest on the main thread is deprecated because of its detrimental effects to the end user’s experience. For more help, check https://xhr.spec.whatwg.org/.

Once the plugin is deactivated, this message is gone.

I confirmed that using #content is appropriate for my theme (TwentyTwelve) and I am also using Relevanssi to improve search results. Deactivating all but my essential plugins (including deactivation Relevanssi) doesn’t seem to make a difference.

What do you think is happening?

Do you have a link to your site so I can test this myself?

    Thanks.

    Hello,

Unfortunately I can’t give any access. The site is protected by LDAP and I don’t have the ability to add any users.

If the site is protected that could well be part of the issue. The plugin makes an external request to itself, if that request is blocked for any reason then it could cause inconsistencies.

I would be interested to see the XHR requests in your console to see what headers are being returned by each request. This should help with debugging.

    Ah, that makes sense.

    Does this help?

    XHR finished loading: GET "https://burstaff-dev.colorado.edu/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=iss_suggest&_wpnonce=dfef57c44e&q=tu".jquery.js?ver=1.11.1:4 m.ajaxTransport.sendjquery.js?ver=1.11.1:4 m.extend.ajaxjquery.js?ver=1.11.1:4 m.each.m.(anonymous function)jquery.suggest.js?ver=1428336939:1 a.extend.suggestjquery.suggest.js?ver=1428336939:1 (anonymous function)

Not completely, although it does show your site is password protected and I am 100% certain that this plugin cannot work in that setup due to the remote request.

That makes sense, thanks for looking into it!
