• The Social bar that can be used in the footer/widget areas doesn’t provide any ability to add re=”me”. This renders the ability to use the social media icons as site verification links for platforms such as Mastodon.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello Tim,

Can you clarify what you mean by the ability to add re=”me”? You can set a URL for the social media links if it needs to be in the URL. However, if you need to add an attribute to the HTML, you probably need to employ JavaScript.

@ghernkadence rel is an HTML attribute for tags, such as an anchor tag. In the theme Customizer when using the Social bar in the Footer you are allowed to set an SVG or Image, as well as the actual link to the social media platform. The rel attribute should also be configurable to allow a site owner to add the me value which signifies that the URL in question is something that also has a direct relationship with the site. I had to install a custom social media Block Plugin that had this capability just so that I could add that attribute for Mastodon verification. This is a standard HTML attribute that should be customizable.

I found I had this problem too, though I was trying to add a link to my menu, and I’m on a hosted space.

That said, I found that if you open the ‘Screen Options’ in the upper right when adding Menu items, there’s a Link Relationship option which allows you to add the ‘me’ option which updates the html in the way you’re attempting.

However – it’s STILL not working for me (checked the html and it looks exactly like Mastodon is requesting) so…?

Anyway – hope that helps in your case, at least.
