Suspicious registrations

I’m getting many suspicious user registrations lately with odd usernames and complex passwords. Even stranger, is that they never post anything on my blog. As spam is clearly not their purpose, what could they be doing with these registrations?

Please note: I am NOT asking how to stop these registrations, only what their purpose could be if not to spam.
