SVG problem

Hi,
I can’t seem to make svg format with menu icons.
I have no problem with predefined icon sets, like FontAwesome, and I can also place png images as icons.
But for svg apparently it does not work:
– I create svg from Adobe illustrator
– I load the svg in the multimedia library of my site
– I then can see it from the menu icons panels, and I can select it
– But it is not displayed at all, no errors are issued.
Am I missing anything?
Any special format of svg that I should take into consideration?
