    Hi,
there is a new data privacy for Europe shortly. How can we switch off saving the ip adress and critical data?

    thank you.

    1. Which columns do you want to skip off during saving?
    2. Can it be solved by some public offer like “You as a respondent agree to provide this site such and such data for save: ip, device, …”?

    Hi,
it is generally not allowed to save the ip adress (e.g. in Germany) and so do for example Google (Google Analytics – anonymized IP). So when the new data privacy starts for Europe nobody can use your (very good) plugin anymore, because of critical data and so on…
Could it be switched completly off?

    @jugiii,

Pls answer on my questions 1 and 2.

    3. So web servers also can’t store IP-addresses in logs?

Could it be switched completly off?

    Currently not.

    hi,
question 1: only ip adress and device
question 2: thats legally not enough

the plugin is really good, but not pracitable anymore, due to the new guidelines. so most of the users will have to delete it.

maybe there is a way without saving ip adresses.

    2. Can you prove it? Can you show concrete legal points/numbers/paragraphs regarding this?

    3. So web servers also can’t store IP-addresses in logs?

I still believe that this is complete insane from legal EU deputies. What if site will be visited by for terrorists and then special service organization will ask site’s owner: “Dear mr. siteowner, can you provide US ip-addresses of bad guys?” And site-owner will respond: “Sorry, I can’t”. Then special service organization will decide, that site’s owner is just helping terrorists!

Are you seriously regarding this new legal EU policy?

    hi,
is it necessary to save the ip adresses? if it is so – ok, than I have to check, if I can use the plugin anymore. due to the new policy you have to save all stored data for legal services, so it′s all very difficult.

    but thanks a lot!

@jugiii if this is something serious legal stuff, then it should be done not on level of this concrete plugin.

This should be done on provider’s level: it should just anonimize visitor’s IP-address, so it will be saved as not-actual.

When more paid customers will ask for such feature — I will think how to implement it.

Currently you does not provide any evidence about this legal acts.

    Regarding legal part see these:

    • Article 6: Lawfulness of processing
    • Article 7: Conditions for consent

    https://www.eugdpr.org/article-summaries.html
    https://data.consilium.europa.eu/doc/document/ST-5419-2016-INIT/en/pdf

As I understand it could be solved easy by simple public offer: “Hi, respondent! We the site collecting your personal data: ip, device, other.. By pressing “Next” in this test you are giving us your consent to store this data. If you don’t wanna your data to be stored, then you should not use this site”.

Anyway it’s a advocates work, not programmers.

    hi again,

for me saving the ip adress doesn′t make sense. so where is the part to stop it? I couldn′t find it by editing the plugin.

    thank you.

    best wishes

@jugiii I will plan to go to meetup regarding GDPR organized by plesk.com people at on 15 May.

After it I will decide whether this really critical feature or not.

Currently I think it could be easily solved though legal way and nothing technical not needed here.

    Hi,
ok, but could you tell me the file(s), where I can stop saving the ip-adress?

    thank you

    Hi,

I am also very interested in switching off saving the ip-adress.

Where can I find the function/variable? Optionally I would enter a “0” or a dummy content manually if possible.

    Thanks for your support

    Best regards,

    Hi,

I visited meetup recently and still dont’ see critical requirement to not save IP/device id.

IP and device id needed to distinguish between anonymous respondents, when they are not provided any other info. So there are legal reasons (contract) here.

Also you always can get consent from respondent like [_] I aggree to provide my ip/device id for the purposes of identication of my passings and to prevent possible fraud from my side.

But if you really need just “not to store anything”, then contact me directly. I can offer paid solution.

Example case of why IP is not private data when you can’t directly link them to real person: https://www.whitecase.com/publications/alert/court-confirms-ip-addresses-are-personal-data-some-cases
