I was developing a client’s site on a development server. Once it was ready to go live, I switched it to a production server. Followed the instructions at https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress under “Changing Your Domain Name and URLs”.

After the process above, everything was seemingly fine except for two things:

    (1) any content that I created with Visual Composer was no longer editable in the wp-admin interface. Visual Composer does not recognize any content for these pages or posts originally created with VC, saying “You have a blank page, start adding content or templates”, even though the same content was showing up when actually browsing the site

    (2) all content that was created with visual composer now has diamond question mark icons dispersed throughout the text where spaces should have been occurring

I’m assuming this is a database issue but not sure and not sure where to begin. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Something worth noting: I did deactivate the Visual Composer license on the development site and activated it on the production site so that’s not the issue.

Since that is a commercial plugin, we ask that you please go to their official support channel, so you can get support from the people who know it best.

    https://support.wpbakery.com/

Forum volunteers are also not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why it is not working properly. Other community members who may have faced your issue might be able to help you but your best bet is your product’s developer. Keep in mind we encourage you to use the official support venues, as it allows the developers to be aware of issues with their code and gives back to the community in a more robust way.

Thanks for the reply James. I approached support @ WPBakery first before I came here. When they started ignoring me after unsuccessfully solving the problem, I came here.

I’ll leave this open, in case someone else has any ideas.

Hey, jsmilanic, I’ve run into the same problem with VC showing a blank page where it should be displaying content. I’m also getting the weird question mark icons on the front end.

Were you able to resolve this issue? I’m at a loss!

Just to be sure, have you also contacted WP Bakery?

Yeah, I submitted a ticket with WP Bakery as well. Thanks, James!

I’m afraid not Rick. WP Bakery pretty much just ignored me once they realized they couldn’t solve the problem. I ended up having to redo all of the content :/

I hope you have better luck!

Im facing the exact same problem with several of my websites!!!

All I say now is, I WILL NEVER EVER USE VISUAL COMPOSER EVER AGAIN!!!

I wish I could sue them for the loss of revenue while wasting days trying to resolve their blank pages content, not to mention my business’ reputation having to please and explain to clients why I am unable to make changes to their websites.

Some advice to everyone… Stick with DIVI theme using the DIVI builder from Elegant themes. Its so versatile you never need another theme!!

To the grave with VS!!! Worst plugin I have ever used.
