I recently switched from wordpress.com to www.ads-software.com, and kept the same theme when I made the switch.

I’ve had a few issues in trying to figure out a few things.

    1. I’ve found no simple way of changing the font & font size of the Titles for posts on the main blog page, as well as the titles and text within the widgets.

    2. The thumbnails that I’ve uploaded as feature images (all are gifs)… since I made the switch, the thumbnails are no longer animated, like they used to.

    3. When I click on a post I created since making the switch, it activates the ‘active’ selection on the ‘ABOUT’ link in the menu.

Both sites are still active (nhlgif.wordpress.com) and (nhlgif.com), and the differences are fairly evident. I’m not sure if I changed a setting somewhere and didn’t notice.

    Thanks,

Hi jimmyadams, I’ll answer your questions in a few batches.

    1. I’ve found no simple way of changing the font & font size of the Titles for posts on the main blog page, as well as the titles and text within the widgets.

Custom Fonts are a feature built into WordPress.com, but they’re not part of WordPress core.

To change the font on a self-hosted site, you have a few options. You can install a Google Fonts plugin or use one of the non-plugin methods outlined by my colleague James.

You’ll then need to add some custom CSS either via a custom CSS plugin (like the Custom CSS module in Jetpack I see you’re already using) or a child theme, targeting the elements whose font/size you want to change.

These resources might help you with the CSS part:

If you need further help after looking at the above, just let me know.

Your homepage thumbnail GIFs are animating for me on the self-hosted site, but it takes a while for them to all load. It’s possible your host can’t handle the simultaneous loading of all of them at once. Could you try displaying fewer posts per page under Settings > Reading and see if that helps?

    3. When I click on a post I created since making the switch, it activates the ‘active’ selection on the ‘ABOUT’ link in the menu.

Can you try removing and re-adding that page in your custom menu?

    Thanks Kathryn,

I was able to figure a lot of it out after hours of trial and error. Except for the animated thumbnails, but I’m thinking I’d rather have a lot appear on the main page (or at least enough to keep everything weighted evenly) and loading quickly than for them to be animated. So I’ll just go with no animation from here on out.

    Thanks again.

Glad you’re mostly sorted. I marked this thread as resolved but feel free to start a new one if you need further help.
