Switching from Total Donations to GiveWP

Thanks for considering Give. We believe you’ll be very happy.

1) You might try keeping them both in order to convert your forms to Give forms manually. The only potential conflict might be whether or not “Total Donations” uses the /donations/ URL to display donation forms or not. If it does, and you want to see the Give Archive page with a list of forms, you’ll nee to eventually deactivate Total Donations and re-save your Permalinks (Settings > Permalinks) in order to see the Give /donations/ page. You can also customize that with a custom snippet that we can help you with if you want.

2) We don’t have an import tool per se. But you can look into tools like WP All Import which are designed for that purpose. Also keep in mind that both Total Donations and Give just display your donation records in your WP-Admin, but they are actually stored in your payment gateway. So if you purchase a premium payment gateway (like PayPal Pro or Stripe) then you’ll continue to be able to process dontations there even if you can’t see the old historical records directly in Give.

When you say “convert your forms to Give forms manually,” what exactly did you mean by that?

I installed Give + the Form Field Manager add-on and have been attempting to duplicate my existing form using this tool. So far, it’s been very frustrating! First of all, I would prefer for the Personal Info section with the required fields to come BEFORE all the additional custom fields I’m adding. I would like a way to make Last Name a required field. I also have two sections on the existing form that are conditional – for example, it asks “is this donation in honor or memory of someone?” If the user ticks the checkbox, it opens up the additional questions they need to answer. Same idea for matching gifts.

Unless I’m missing something, Give’s Form Field Manager seems REALLY simple and not able to handle what I need to do. There’s not even a built in dropdown menu option for all the states in the US, unless I want to sit there and type in all 50 myself? I am surprised, given the cost of Give, that it’s not more sophisticated.

Is there a way I can code my own form and use it? A way to import a Gravity Forms form? A way to re-use the form I already have from Total Donations and adjust it to work with Give?

Yes, add this to your wp-config.php file:

define(GIVE_SLUG, 'ways2give');

Just change ‘ways2give’ to whatever you like.

The reason i’m asking is,, i got this after updating wp-config:

also the url seems didn’t change as i cant go to mydomain/donations still

Hi,
I am also thinking of changing from Total Donations to Give. However, I want to make sure I don’t get the same errors as I get with our present setup.

Since PayPal arbitrarily changed us from PayPal Pro to PayPal PayFlow Pro almost a year ago, our recurring donations no longer work. The initial donation gets processed, nothing after that. PayPal says we need to change the customers CC expiry from MMYYYY to MMYY. So far, that hasn’t worked for us.
Also, when our donors use PayPal to donate directly through the PayPal site, duplicate donations are being recorded, sometimes up to six times. PayPal doesn’t know what causes this.

The only thing that works consistently are regular, non-recurring transactions.

Of course, Total Donations is no longer supported, so I cannot get any help there. But I don’t want to end up with the same problems if I move to Give.
Any thoughts?
