switching off WYSIWYG not functioning?

    I just implemented Exec-PHP, for which the WYSIWYG-editor needs to be switched off in the user settings. And I was not able to switch if off, neither in Firefox nor in Opera (latest versions). In the underlying db the status of rich-editing was “false”, so the tick box was functioning, but something else not…

    Which leaves the question unanswered if Exec-PHP is compliant with 4.2.2 as was raised elsewhere in the forum. I presume it is, but cannot check now…

  • Might I suggest deactivating all your plugins as well as switching back to a default theme such as Twenty Fifteen and test again to see if “Disable the visual editor when writing” still fails.

    If not, which I suspect, then one by one reactivate your plugins and see which one overrides the command. If none of the plugins being activated allow you to reproduce the issue then switch to your regular theme and try again to see if it’s a theme issue.

    Once you’ve figured out which plugin(s) and/or theme is the issue then post a bug report in that 3rd party’s support forum.

    Thanks Randy for your answer, but unfortunately, after switching-off all active-plug-ins and after switching theme to Twenty Fifteen, I was still unable in switching-off the WYSIWYG editor.

    As mentioned, in the db in table wp_<..>_metadata the meta-key for rich-editing (which I presume is controlling this) is correctly set to false. With unfortunately no effect.

    Hopefully you won’t advise to re-install WP next …

    No, but I do advise calling your hosting provider and letting them know with a near default install of WordPress 4.2.2 the troubles you are having. I have seen time and time again where the host will say, “Oh yeah, that’s because we …. So, do this … and all will be fine.”

    Additionally, if possible, you could install a second instance WordPress and see if the issue persists or not. AND, if it does, try and see if an older version of WordPress exhibits the same issue or not.

    Thanks again. In a last attempt before contacting my provider I tried this plug-in: Disable Visual Editor WYSIWYG. And that apparantly does the job! So I let it rest for now.
