I don’t use a plugin, I just upload ’em and style them in the post.

If I want to post a thumbnail, I am just inserting it in a new line. Now how do I post a thumbnail in the left or right of the content?

I like to use Thomas Montague’s LMB-Box FilePress. What’s neat about it is that you can style it however you wish as he’s wrapped the code in a classes alignleft, alignright and aligncenter. And it’s not restricted to images; you can upload other kinds of files as well (e.g., zip, pdf, doc, wpd, etc.) — just be sure you specify those file extensions in Options (Miscellaneous).
