• I have to change the theme on a website. The site contains hundreds of posts and pages. I have to duplicate the site to make layout and home pages changes in a temporarily sub-domain before switching the theme on the production site. How can I update the URLs globally throughout the database or would there be another way to test drive the new appearance?

  • Why do you need to change database entries or URLs, etc., if you are merely changing the Theme?

The Theme does not determine content, nor is content dependent upon the Theme.

I can change the theme for you for free as my theme site is not official yet. Go to my site and fill in the form

If you merely want to recreate your live site in a test environment, just export the data from your live site (Dashboard -> Tools -> Export -> All Content), and then import it into your test site.

    Hi, Thanks for your suggestions!

Some plugins require full URLs to work properly, so I have to make sure for testing purposes to link to the test-site.

The NextGen Galleries have to be adjusted to the new margins to fit into the page layout.

The home page will have a complete new look and functionality.

Some new features have to be integrated. It is not just changing pants; it’s like to do a complete makeover in your 50th.

Chip, I will try your approach export – import. I have to redo each page/post because the images need to be re-sized to fit the new design.
