Swithing to permanent URL — Please Advise!

  • Hello! This shouldn’t be too difficult but I have worked on my new blog site and would like to switch it to the permanent url. I just tried to do this following the Codex Instructions here

    Well.. It did not work. I was locked out of my WordPress Admin..
    and our url: https://documentaries.org just showed the old blog (which I changed the url to its standard WordPress.com via the same method)

    Our domain is https://documentaries.org and I simply need to carry our blog site in progress from https://documentaries.org/wordpress_2010

    Thought this seemed simple enough by following the Codex instructions through the directory and settings in the Dashboard.. What am I missing..?

    Any and all advice greatly appreciated.. Thanks! David

  • Not sure if this is the only problem but consider using phpMyAdmin to make sure your wp_options table has the correct values in siteurl and home. Right now it looks like your ‘home’ value is documentaries.wordpress.com

    siteurl is your WordPress address (URL) and home is your Blog Address (URL).

    And, some other info:
    https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/site-url/

    Also update your permalink structure when done.

    documentaries.wordpress.com is the old one and i want to leave at that address.. but it still loads at the url I would like for my new site blog documentaries.org

    I want to put https://documentaries.org/wordpress_2010 to load at documentaries.org – as you can see for now it has an index issue as well

    Please Advise!!!

    Visiting https://documentaries.org/wordpress_2010/ returns errors meaning you may not have all WordPress files loaded correctly.

    If you are intending on moving wordpress from the wordpress_2010 folder to your web-root folder then you might want to reveiw Moving WordPress and Changing_The_Site_URL.

    correct. there is a problem with the WordPress structure.. i believe the index file is out of place or something equally simple but don’t know what.

    I did see that tutorial and it didn’t work
    following those instructions di not moved the blog loading to documentaries.org away nor place the new one there..

    Please Advise!! This should be pretty simple right?

    Sorry–not much more I can add except from those articles–maybe someone else will jump in with ideas.
