    Hello,

Just installed and setup this plugin (replacing a different SMTP plugin). However, whenever I send a test email, certain symbols will send proceeded by a backslash “\”. I tested several receipt addresses with the same results.

For example, here’s my test email:

    Let’s test out Easy SMTP.
    Here’s some symbols !@#$%^&*()
    These are more common :;”‘,./?\-=_+~

Here’s what gets sent (appears in debug log & user’s inbox):

    Let\’s test out Easy SMTP.
    Here\’s some symbols !@#$%^&*()
    These are more common :;\”\’,./?\\-=_+~

    Here are my settings:
    Mail server: smtp.gmail.com
    Type of Encryption: SSL
    SMTP Port: 465
    SMTP Authentication: yes
    Enable domain check: no

Any ideas what may be causing this problem? I have to send out an important newsletter tomorrow and I’m worried this issue will repeat in my newsletter.

  • Hi @tdcsforeveryone.

The slashes are appearing because this is how Easy WP SMTP is filtering user input on Settings page. This affects test email only. We will make sure it isn’t adding slashes into test email message in the next plugin version, thank you for bringing the attention to this!

Your other messages shouldn’t be affected, at least by this plugin. To test it out, send yourself a contact inquiry on your site via Contact Us page and see your message should stay extra-slashes-free ??

Thank you for the quick reply!

Just received your contact form message. Scot-free of slashes! Thank you for doing that, very happy to know I don’t have to worry about this ??

    Quick add-on question..
I use the “Newsletter” newsletter plugin, which I just discovered has its own optional SMTP settings built in.

Does Easy WP SMTP cover everything being sent out from the website, even emails generated from other plugins?

    Thank for the support.

    No problemo ??

Yep, Easy WP SMTP should cover it unless its settings aren’t overridden by some other plugin.
I just tested it with this Newsletter plugin and it seems to be working just fine, so you got it covered, e.g. no need to enable Newsletter SMTP settings as Easy WP SMTP handles it.

But do some testing just in case by sending a test Newsletter to yourself.

Wow, BEST support for a WP plugin I’ve ever received. Easy WP SMTP +1

    Thank you so much.
