• I’m not sure if this belongs here or somewhere else, but I’ll start here. If I need to move it elsewhere, just let me know.

I’m developing a new site. It’s based on the current site, which is still running in a different location. I’ve successfully cloned the current site and set it up in a test environment. Now I’ll change the theme, add plugins, remove plugins, etc.

The current site is still up and being updated (pages & posts added and removed, etc.)

When the time comes to make the switch what’s the best way to bring any new content that was added in the interim period into the new site?

I’m thinking I can export the content from the old site and import it into the new, but I’m concerned that this might end up duplicating a lot of the content I have in the cloned site. Or will it?

    Thanks for any advice?

    John

    Hi @jgold723,

Something like WP Migrate DB will do this. There’s a pro version too so check out which fits your needs better.

The bigger issue would be if you have added content to the new site *as well* as the old site. Then you need a merge which is tricky. The same company that makes the plugin above also provide MergeBot which does this, but it’s quite pricey.

Here’s an article on WP development workflow, which seems to be the path you’re starting down, even if you didn’t know it!

    Does that help?

    Ah, perfect. Thank you!

Can you post the link to the article you referenced? I’d love to read it.
