Synopsis on main page

  • How do I make only a short synopsis on the front page?

    Right now the entire post is shown on the front page. I would like to have only the first X numbers of characters shown so the visitor can go the to actual post to read the message.

    I use Homesite 5.5

    I haven’t used anything called “Read More”. I wasn’t aware there was something like that. I was just refering to what I wanted the link to look like to read the rest of the story on it’s own page.

    Is there a plugin called Read More?

    No. There is “more” button in your Write admin suboanel. The first thing should be to get familiar with the tool your are using.

    On the first post I disabled “Disable INAP for this post?”. Will that have detrimental effects? (I haven’t gotten into what that is yet)

    It seems to have worked but there is no link for going to the page unless someone clicks the subject header. Is there a way to have a link instead of […]?

    I’ve been programming for 25 years or so (that’s why I’m still stuck on Homesite lol). I’m only new to wordpress. I really appreciate your help. I’ve always believed it’s better to ask questions when learning new code. Thanks for help again ??

    Ok…what I ended up doing is installing Excerpt Editor ( https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/excerpt-editor/#post-1082 ) and disabled the “Disable INAP for this post?” on the posts and edited each excerpt to add the Read More… link.

    Does disabling the INAP do anything I should be aware of?

    INAP? There is nothing like that in WP – as far as I can remember.
    Is it theme related? Or is it a plugin (as I suspected earlier)?

    Yeah, the excerpts are like that – no “read more” link.
    Although there is a plugin: excerpt_reloaded.

    It seems to be working. I haven’t tried it on a new post to see if it works automatically yet though. But editing each post seem to work.

    I don’t know which plugin uses the thing called INAP so I’ll have to go through them to see what it is.

    I appreciate your help. You really got me on the right track with this.

    WP seems to be pretty modular. I really like it so far. The plugins system is great. I’m looking forward to learning everything I can with it as time goes.

    PS I have one more question, off topic a bit…How do I uninstall a plugin? Just delete the directory of the plugin?
