• Hi all,
I’ve been trying to make some changes to my site this morning, but I keep getting the following error message:

    Service Temporarily Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
    ——————————————————————————–

    Apache/1.3.33 Server at https://www.givememyremote.com Port 80

I’ve been having a pretty strong day in terms of traffic but is that enough to shut down my system? Surely there are sites on WP a lot bigger than mine.

If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

    Thanks so much!

  • First suggestion: If I see a message like this:
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems
… first thing would be to contact my host. The forum cannot do anything about your host server.

Surely, there are WP installations of all sizes – even huge ones. The “capacity problems” are always related to the hardware where you blog is = the server. Or the space/bandwidth you bought.

I’ve been getting this same message, but only when I try to edit older posts, adding them to additional categories. My host is Dreamhost and I’ve tried emailing them about it, but they couldn’t find a problem.

Fixed: in Dreamhost’s web panel, under Domains > Manage Domains > Edit, I unchecked the extra web security box, as discussed in this topic.
