TABLE: Insert multi-cell table into Visual Editor to organize image/text
-
A tough nut to crack.
The short version: Allow installation of a “multi-cell table” into Visual Editor for posts or pages. Allow insertion of single image into any cell, and allow insertion of text into any adjoining cell in the table. Allow simple cell padding (etc). Allow image or text to automatically adjust cell size. A “fixed” cell size would require extensive experimentation to get the desired visual result. Allow post/page text to wrap around table.
The purpose is to provide an organized image/text configuration within a text post or page by inserting one or several thumbnails (linked to larger images) without the current squirrely alignment presented by the Visual Editor. What one “sees” in the Visual Editor is NOT – WYSIWYG in any stretch of the imagination. My system is an XP with IE-7, WP 321 and 20-10 theme and I’m not a programmer. I’d hate to think I might have to purchase a new computer and associated compatible software to the tune of several hundred dollars or even exceeding a thousand, and then have to hack everything just to organize the image and associated text. A simple table would do the trick.
What most of us would like is to insert thumbnails and associated text into a “post” or “page” very much like what is found in commercial product catalogs. A picture of the product on the left and associated text on the right, to cite a simple display. Since the images are likely not all the same size and the associated text may exceed the vertical size of the image the “current” result using Visual Editor alone sends the image “here” and text someplace else other than what is intended. Hence the need for a table in which the image and associated text can be constrained in the appropriate cells and the “outside” text wraps around the parameter of the table.
Using the Gallery does not provide the “catalog” style format of image and associated text.
In “my” case, I have various photos of wildlife, maps, and associated text that comprises part of the overall “article” or topic. Fooling around with CSS, HTML (et al) is a very cumbersome and unpredictable method of “aligning image and text” within the Visual Editor… WYSIWYG is NOT what you get.
I have searched extensively for an appropriate TABLE plugin… but nothing found except for tables that create “lists” etc.
If anyone knows of a WP 321 compatible TABLE plugin I’d appreciate the URL or an alternate solution.
Thanks
